A project pricing calculator gives you a quick first estimate of what a software or web project might cost before you talk to a developer or agency. It is useful when you are planning a budget, comparing quotes, or deciding whether to build a feature now or later.
How this estimate works: the calculator starts with a base cost of $1,000 per team member per week. It multiplies that by the timeline in weeks and the team size. A 12-week project with 3 people starts at $36,000.
Next it applies a complexity multiplier. Basic projects stay at 1×, Standard projects use 1.5×, Premium projects use 2.2× and Enterprise projects use 3.5×. Higher complexity usually means more senior developers, more planning, stricter security and more testing.
Each extra feature you tick (API integration, custom design, database setup, testing and QA, a mobile app, an admin dashboard, payments or third-party services) adds 15% to the base. Features often take longer than people expect because they need design, testing and ongoing maintenance.
How to use the result: treat it as a starting range, not a final quote. Real prices depend on where the team is based, their experience, how clear your requirements are and how many changes you make along the way. Agencies in the US often charge more than freelancers or offshore teams, while very cheap quotes can mean missing testing or support.
Tips to keep costs down: write a short, clear list of must-have features before asking for quotes. Launch a smaller first version (an MVP), then add features once real users give feedback. Ask every developer what is included: design, testing, hosting, maintenance and bug fixes after launch. Plan for 15–20% extra for surprises, because almost every project changes once work begins.
Complexity: Basic 1×, Standard 1.5×, Premium 2.2×, Enterprise 3.5×. Each added feature adds 15% of the base cost.
Basic, 8 weeks, 2 people, 1 feature
$16,000 × 1 × 1.15 = $18,400
Standard, 12 weeks, 3 people, 2 features
$36,000 × 1.5 × 1.30 = $70,200
Enterprise, 20 weeks, 5 people, 4 features
$100,000 × 3.5 × 1.60 = $560,000
